Font Licensing

Last Updated: 16 April, 2025

At Dhakatype, we believe in accessible design and typography for all. That’s why we provide high-quality Bangla fonts under two licensing models: Open Source (Free) and Premium.

Below, you'll find everything you need to know about how our fonts can be used legally and respectfully.

1. Open Source Fonts (Free to Use)

Our open-source fonts are available to download and use at no cost. These fonts are usually licensed under SIL Open Font License (OFL) or another similar open license.

You Can:
• Use the fonts for personal, educational, or commercial projects
• Install and use them on websites, social media, documents, designs, etc.
• Share projects that use the fonts (as long as you don’t resell the fonts themselves)
• Modify the font partially but need our permission to distribute or redistribute it through our or your website/social media. But you can't change the name of the font or other font details and credits. You must need to give courtesy to Dhakatype for the font's original source.

You Cannot:
• Sell or repackage the font files
• Claim the fonts as your own creation
• Modify the fonts fully and distribute them under a different name (unless allowed by the license)

Each open-source font includes a license file — make sure to read it for exact permissions.

2. Premium Fonts (Full Font Families)

Some fonts on dhakatype.com are available as premium full families. These include extended style sets (like bold, italic, thin, etc.), additional weights, advanced features, or extended character support.

Buying a Premium Font Gives You:
• A personal or commercial use license
• Access to the full font family not available for free
• Lifetime use - no subscription needed

Usage Terms:
• You may use the fonts in print, branding, packaging, or advertising.
• You may not resell, redistribute, or share the font files.
• Fonts are licensed per user or organization. For large organizations, contact us for a custom license.

3. Custom or Extended Licensing

If you need to:
• Embed a font in a web, mobile app or software
• Use it in a commercial product (like a logo package, template, or merchandise)
• Get a multi-user or enterprise license

Email us at info@dhakatype.com and we’ll sort it out for you.
