About Dhakatype
Our Origin Story
Dhakatype (previously Typobaaz) was born during the challenging days of the COVID-19 quarantine in 2021, a time when the world paused, and creativity flourished. What started as a curiosity for graphic design evolved into a profound love for typography, and soon, Dhakatype emerged as a visionary type foundry focused on Bangla fonts.
Our Journey
From humble beginnings, we began by collaborating with a network of talented designers to create our first typeface, Alankar. This marked the beginning of our journey, a path shaped by passion, exploration, and an unwavering commitment to perfecting type design. In the early stages, we faced challenges, struggling with design precision and lacking mature research capabilities. But over time, we grew, learned, and honed our craft. Today, we have the expertise to create meticulously crafted fonts, imbued with a deep understanding of typographic principles and cultural significance.
Our Mission
At Dhakatype, our mission is to combine tradition with innovation and accessibility. Our typefaces are built with the belief that typography plays a crucial role in the world around us, everything around us is typefaces. It's a universal language, one that shapes how we communicate, express, and interact. Our dedication to open-source design has led us to build the largest open-source library of Bangla fonts, making a significant contribution to the global font ecosystem and empowering designers, creators, and brands worldwide.
Our Creative Process
Our creative process begins with sketching original concepts, followed by extensive research and refinement. Once a concept is established, we design the full glyph set, ensuring that every curve, angle, and form is thoughtfully considered. Afterward, we meticulously develop each typeface for seamless digital use.
Our Impact
While we may not yet have notable clients, our fonts, such as Suchitra and Bohubrihi, have gained significant popularity and recognition in the market, affirming our place in the typography community.
Looking Ahead
As we look to the future, we see immense potential in the world of type design, and we are committed to enriching the Bangla language’s typography library. We aim to continue designing and publishing a diverse range of typefaces, offering them freely to the public. In the near future, we also look forward to collaborating with other designers and brands to provide bespoke type solutions.
